Character Name: Quatre Raberba Winner
Character Canon: New Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

History: Wiki

AU History:

Born as the youngest of five in the prestigious Winner Family, Quatre Raberba Winner was already given high hopes of being an heir someday. His family, mostly known for their part as council members, had taught the young boy everything they knew for him to follow in their footsteps. For most of his life, he did as he was told. He studied day in and day out just so he could make his family proud of him. After all, he was the youngest compared to all his other siblings, he needed to find a way to make sure he stood out somehow!

Of course, while all that hard work made him the model son to his parents, it also made him completely distant from the rest of the world. While most people his age would hang out with their friends, he spend it by reading in the library. Due to this, he grew extremely cynical of the world around him. He grew envious of those who didn't have such a heavy burden on their shoulders and were free to able to do whatever they pleased. He made no attempt to bother hiding it to his family either. As much as he tried to explain his wishes, they mentioned it wouldn't be right and thus, his negative impression of the world only grew.

However, everything changed one day when he was 12. As Quatre was in the middle of his studies, he encountered a Ralts in the garden. Seeing that it was hungry, the boy simply took the pokemon in in hopes that it would leave as soon as it was done. The last thing he wanted was for his parents to yell at him for bringing in a pokemon. During that time, to make light of the situation, he simply talked to the Ralts and mentioned how it must be nice to be free. Much to his surprise though?

As soon as the Ralts talked right back, his eyes widen in surprise before he slowly backed away from him. At first, he thought he was imagining things but it didn't take long for him to realise that something strange was going on. Luckily, the Ralts was patient enough as he continued to talk to Quatre and they developed a bond from there. Although, in the meantime, he had to make sure that his parents didn't find out. During that time, he managed to convince the Ralts to stay and hide whenever someone came to his room.

In the meantime, As he slowly studied more about his newfound abilities, he found out that he was an Enlightened. From there, his world view slowly started to change and made him more empathetic to others. From that point, he made it clear that he would leave the household and to never return again.

At the age of 14, he ran away and went off to see what the world had to offer for him.

Canon Personality:

Compared to his fellow gundam pilots, Quatre has the least experience when it comes to tragedy. However, that doesn't mean his journey was meaningless. Throughout his canon, Quatre went from a selfish boy with a cynical world view to becoming the idealistic leader he always was.

The first thing about Quatre is how much of an optimist he is. Despite being in the middle of a war, he chooses to keep his pacifist ways first than immediately rush into battle. After all, one of his first lines was for his enemies to surrender so he didn't need to kill them. Even afterwards, he apologized to them. Another example would be when he first met Trowa. While he decided to engage in battle with him at first, he surrendered because it didn't seem right for two gundam pilots to fight in the first place. Instead, he decided to befriend him and allow him into his house because it was a better solution. By the time all five gundam pilots met, Quatre didn't bother fighting at all. Instead, he told everyone to stop and focus on the real target. Even later on the in series, he still maintained his idealistic ways. He was hoping that peace was possible despite all the violence he had seen.

On that note, Quatre has a very strong moral code. While he does have an intense sense about justice, he is also one of the only gundam pilots that tries to befriend people. Outside of his inital meeting with Trowa, Quatre took Duo in for shelter shortly after an Oz attack. In addition, right after he went to space, he thought about going back to Earth. All he wanted to do was to help Heero find Relena. Not only that, he tried to contact WuFei and hoped that they could work together. Even after finding out that Noin worked for Oz, that didn't stop him from being nice. He even thanked her plenty of times as well. If it weren't for his constant attempts to know these gundam pilots, he would have never convinced them to work together against their enemies.

This could also be the fact that he is the heir of the Winner family. From the moment that he was born, he had to take over his family's company. It shows as Quatre is known to have abilities outside of war that makes him look like a good businessmen. For one thing, he is a talented musician who can play multiple instruments easily given the number of them in his home. He also prefers books and painting compared to things like machines as well.

Since he comes across as mature for his age, he knows his manners and has the best set of skills possible as a future leader. For one thing, Quatre is an extremely intelligent young man who plans ahead rather than to rush straight on into battle. An example would be shortly after their failed attempt in beating Oz. He calmly told Heero to destroy the biggest missile instead of all the other ones. After all, there was only ten minutes left, they needed to find the quickest way possible. This was also shown as he can take over a mobile suit and lead the Maganac Corps easily even when he was 13.

Despite all his leadership abilities, it wasn't as prominent until he had to use Wing Zero's system. While he thought of himself as weak, he was able to rise above its influence and lead his friends into battle easily. After all, one needed to have a calm mind or else the system would make its pilot go insane. Even afterwards, he told Heero he didn't need the system anymore. He can lead his friends just fine.

Even with all his good qualities though, he does have a lot of flaws. As mentioned before, Quatre views himself as the weakest of the gundam pilots. It should come to no surprise that he has some self-esteem issues.

Ever since he was a little boy, he thought of himself as a test tube baby and could be easily replaced. While he might be the only male out of his 29 sisters, he still viewed himself as one out of 29. Even years later, he had some traces of his own self-worth in a conflicted world. An example would be when he was trying to save his friends from an Oz attack. He had no problem self detonating his gundam when he could have easily gotten himself out of the cockpit without Sandrock's intervention. All he hoped was for his fellow pilots to finish the mission without him. Another example would be when he shortly arrived on Earth with Heero. After being held hostage, he decided to escape simply because he viewed himself as a burden and didn't want to get other people get involved. Even after he found sanctuary in the Sanc Kingdom, he constantly continued to feel like he was not worth protecting. He said that a solider like himself didn't deserve it. This was proven even further in Endless Waltz. After Duo commented how Quatre blamed himself for everything, he immediately went after the gundams because he felt responsible for making his fellow pilots defenseless.

Since he sees himself as replaceable, he might come across as reckless. For one thing, Quatre is tactical minded; he needs to think ahead. Otherwise, he has no idea what to do. After finding himself surrounded by Oz, he thought of destroying his gundam to save his friends. He had no other option and thought this was the best idea. Another example would be when he was he was at the lowest point in his life. Even when his father died by the colony's hands, he still wanted peace but he didn't know how to get it. That was why he made Wing Zero. He hoped that in creating it, all the fight would stop even if it wasn't the best idea. In addition, after he arrived on Earth with Heero, Quatre found himself wandering from place to place with no plan whatsoever. While most of it was Heero telling him not to fight, it didn't mean that Quatre just couldn't.

Lastly, despite Quatre being one of the more compassion person in the show, he isn't one to open up so easily. While most of it is his lack of confidence, he couldn't mind any meaning in friendship. That was why he easily befriended the Maganac Corps, he finally met with people like himself. However, despite that, it never stopped Quatre from feeling like he was by himself. He was so eager to meet up with the other gundam pilots because he could meet with other soldiers like himself. Of course, because he tended to bottle everything up, that was why he created Wing Zero. As mentioned before, Quatre never experienced real tragedy before and had no idea how to handle it. Instead of trying to find the other gundam pilots, he created Wing Zero because he thought was fighting this battle alone.

Of course, even after Trowa told him to think otherwise, Quatre still had some trouble opening up. Even after Heero constant attempts, he kept to himself. However, it is something he's working on. In Endless Waltz, he opened up and brought all the gundam pilots together. And guess what? It turned out for the better.

Overall, Quarte has experienced a lot of things during his lifetime. While he might still be a sheltered kid, that never stopped him from trying the best he could be. He has made plenty of mistakes but he is trying to become a leader he could be proud of.

AU Deviation:

Compared to his canon counterpart, Quatre isn't a soldier. He doesn't have to worry about the mental conflict about life and death. Due to this, he is able to lead a more normal lifestyle despite him being somewhat sheltered from the rest of the world. However, because of his age, this also leads him to be slightly more naive and not quite willing to kill. If anything, he'll try his best to knock his enemies down rather than fight head on.

His lack of self esteem is still present but not to the extent compared to his canon counterpart. He's not a test tube baby but the years of being pressured by his family doesn't do well for his psyche.

Canon Abilities:

Soldier - Quatre is a trained soldier and thus, have above average skills compared to a regular person. He knows how to hack into a computer system, knows how to fight one on one, knows how to operate a giant robot (and even make one by hand!), knows how to use firearms, plan ahead for a battle, calculate an enemy's attack and so on.

Businessmen - In addition, since he's the head of a wealthy family, he also knows how to operate an organization. He knows how to negotiate between two different parties and find a middle ground somehow. He can plan ahead and mircomanage.

Musician - As a lover of music, Quatre has the ability to play multiple instruments. He knows how to play the piano, violin, and perhaps even more given how many instruments are in his home.

Psychic(?) - Sadly, it's vague if Quatre has telepatheic abilities or not. It's never quite explained in canon and the viewer only gets brief mentions of said ability ("I know they're good people, the heart of outer space told me so..."). Even toward the end when Quatre mastered the ZERO system, he said he didn't need it anymore and can read his enemies attacks clearly. He never explains how or why, he just knows.

Sandrock - Quatre's standard gundam. It was intended to withstand the most intense battles up in space. It also places more emphasis on the heated shotels and melt through metal. It can also be equiped with many different weapons and armor if needed.

Enlightened Abilities:
Ground/Psychic
Kindred Soul

Starting abilities: Bone Club, Sand Attack, Agility

First Evolution: Confusion, Calm Mind, Mud Slap

Second Evolution: Earthquake, Future Sight, Extrasensory

Quatre's abilities are more defensive/supportive rather than offensive. I feel like it would suit him better since he isn't one who enjoys fighting. He only has to if there's no other choice.

With his inital abilities, Quatre will pick up features of his gundam. His skin is slightly thicker than before and he isn't quite as easy to injure.

In his first evolution though, that's when things start to become more noticeable. He will pick up psychic and pick up the emotional cues from both humans pokemon alike but only slightly. In addition, he will notice that his skin is thicker than before and making it even more difficult to injure him.

In his second evolution, he is able to become a little more aware of his surroundings. Should someone or something appear, he will sense it but only by a little. In addition, his own strength and agility will increase.

He'll probably get an enhanced item later on that's similiar to the shotels from Sandrock.

Starter Pokémon: Ralts, nicknamed Sandrock, lvl 10

SAMPLES

First-Person:

I know this isn't in the BNW setting but I had a meme thread for him here. If you want it in the BNW setting, let me know!

Third-Person:

1) What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?

I think Pokemon have played an important role in my life. Without them, I think I would have never ran away from my family and gotten a chance to see what the world is like out there. [A chuckle] I know it seems horrible but I think I want to find out what I want for myself! I don't want others to tell me what to do.

2) What do you feel your role in your city is?

My role? [He sank back from his seat as he continued to ponder. However, after a minute or two, he gave sigh.] To be honest, I'm not sure. All I know is that I want to help other people but I don't know what just yet! But I hope I get to find out soon!

3) What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?

[With that, Quatre's eyes widen before tapping his chin a little] I suppose it's how I'm determined? [He gave a nervous smile] If I wasn't, I wouldn't have come this far! However, I never really asked them before.

[That and he didn't want to admit it was him trying to boost his confidence. He really didn't want to hear what Ralts had to say about him.]

4) What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?

[The young blond glanced at the ground before looking straight as his pokemon. As he did so, the look of uncertainly was written on his face.]

...I don't really know. That's what I'm trying to find out for myself. As I said before, as long as I can help others out, I'm happy but I don't know how to achieve that just yet.

I think my greatest duty is just to test my abilities and see where that will take me for now.

5) What strengths make you most qualified for your role within your city?

I think that with my background, I am someone who's capable of making good judgement. When you're in the council, you need to make a good assessment of someone and see what their consequences will be. I also think that because of how studious I am, I-I'm also a hardworker. If given a task, I will finish it to the end no matter what. And um...uh...

[At that moment, Quatre had to pause. Once again, he took another glance at the ground as he continued to think of his best qualities. However, as hard as he might try, there was always his father's voice telling him exactly the opposite. As he bit the inside of his lips, he eventually came up with a response]

However, I think my best quality is how willing I am to try new things. After all, if you continue to be stubborn and never change, it will be impossible to learn and understand the things around you.

[Pause] Otherwise, it would be a sad life to live in.

6) In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?

[At that moment, Quatre wanted to say something but found himself immediately closing his mouth. While he wanted to say how he felt about killing, an image flashed across his mind. He never wanted to be the heir to his family's business, he ever wanted was for his parents to just be proud of him.

But he could never do that could he?]

...I think pressuring someone to be something they're not is one of the worst things they can do. It doesn't help anyone nor does it do much good anyway.

[But he had to wonder...just what did his family think of him now?]
